Summary June 1, 2007
Arrested
AGE 56 Despite a court order to stay away from the girl, Sylvester L. Jones, 56, was caught having sex with the 17-year-old in his car. He was arrested. His wife bailed him out. (Pennsylvania) TT - Link
AGE 36 Teaneck, New Jersey teacher was charged after a woman alleges that they had sex from the time she was 13-year-old eighth-grader until she was a 15-year-old sophomore. James Darden turned himself into police. TT - Link
AGE 41 In Louisiana, Emile Lemoine was arrested when a student who graduated in June came forward. Lemoine was arrested on multiple charges of sexual activity with the boy. TT - Link
AGE 26 Art teacher Miranda Peters was arrested. She has been under investigation for a sexual relationship with a female student. Telling another student to lie to police about what she knew about the relationship constitutes a charge of contributing to the deliquency of a minor. (Virginia) TT - Link (Also see Darlene Blagg below.)
AGE 35 A substitute teacher was arrested when he went to meet what he thought was a 13-year-old girl. Shawn Mason was caught in an internet sting. (Pennsylvania) TT - Link
AGE 40 A school counselor, Marco Ramirez, was arrested on suspicion of lewd acts with an eight-grade girl. (Who has to be what? 12, 13?) (California) TT - Link
AGE 18 Starting young, Jeremy Mullins, a substitute teacher (go figure) was charged with sexually assaulting an eighth-grader from the school. (Vermont) TT - Link
Pleaded Guilty
AGE 57 An Austin, Texas teacher pleaded guilty to indecency with a child. Todd McDowell admitted abusing the girl in 1996. One of our Delayed Justice category stories. TT - Link
Sentenced, but spared by a 13-year-old
AGE 36 It must have been a tiny tot court. If you read the reporter's story of the sentencing of Darlene Blagg, you have hit paydirt if you like Harlequin Romance novels. (Harlequin, by the way, is owned by the Toronto Star, the leftwing Canadian newspaper.) The hero was the 13-year-old victim who agreed to the plea deal that sentenced her to a whopping 30 days for having sex with him. What we wondered was, "Were there no adults in that courtroom? Anyone??" Sounds like one of those stories from India. (Virginia) TT - Link
Sentenced
AGE 37 Sentenced to ten years. That was the sentence for Wendie Schweikert for having sex with an 11-year-old boy. She deserves the stiff sentence. The "racial" aspects of the case are farcial. (South Carolina) TT - Link
Sentenced
AGE 56 For lewd conduct in a public park, High School Principal Brent Bailey, was sentenced to three years probation. He won't be teaching again, however. (California) TT - Link
Two other school teachers caught in another park in Oregon have pleaded not guilty. TT - Link
GOOFY
Remember the school teacher who accidentally called a state trooper to arrange a drug buy? Well, she's going to get her job back. Her license was not revoked, only suspended for five years. (Kentucky) TT - Link
Two other teacher discipline cases illustrate the absurdity of having Educrats passing judgement on the teachers they hired in the first place. TT - Link
BRIEFLY NOTED
There may be a TV series in the fall that centers around a desperate high school teacher in Albuquerque who starts a crystal meth business to make money. It's not quite as believable as, say, teachers in Hawaii who sell meth, marijuana and just about every other drug, but it's probably cheaper to shoot in New Mexico. TT - Link
STANDARDIZED TESTS
A Virginia school was investigated when 11 out of 15 examiners handed tests back to students to recheck their test forms when the answers the students marked in their test booklets didn't match the test answer form. It wasn't exam cheating, although the school rates a 2 at GreatSchools.com, and the school was on a list of schools who tested so badly last year that parents could seek other schools in the area. TT - Link
If schools spent as much time teaching as they do scamming the system and teaching children how to cheat, we could call what they did education. You think the test takers at high school, or in college or at a workplace are going to be so helpful?
